Legal and Reuse Policy

BLE is an independent, unofficial fan project; third-party rights remain with their owners, and no general reuse licence is granted.

Last reviewed: 21 September 2026

Unofficial fan project

Black Library Explorer is an independent, unofficial fan project operated by MRKW. It is not affiliated with, approved by, sponsored by, or endorsed by Games Workshop or Black Library.

Trademarks and attribution

Games Workshop, Black Library, Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Horus Heresy, and other referenced product, setting, character, and company names may be trademarks or other protected material belonging to their respective owners. Their use on BLE identifies the works and settings being documented; it does not imply ownership, partnership, or endorsement.

Cover art, excerpts, publication text, logos, and other third-party material remain the property of their respective rights holders. BLE does not claim ownership of those works.

Original BLE material

Original BLE editorial writing, database compilation, interface material, and other project-created content are all rights reserved unless a specific item states otherwise. No general reuse licence is granted.

Nothing on this page grants permission to reproduce, redistribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit third-party material. Anyone seeking those rights must contact the relevant rights holder.

Automated access and reuse

Public HTML, sitemap, and agent-discovery files may be retrieved in accordance with their published crawler and cache instructions. Their availability does not grant a licence to reconstruct or republish the BLE database, remove attribution, or reuse cover art, publisher summaries, article bodies, excerpts, logos, or other third-party material.

Reader analytics

Where optional reader analytics are enabled, BLE asks for your permission in a banner before sending any data to PostHog. Allow and Decline save your choice. Dismissing the banner leaves tracking off and hides it for the current browser tab session. To reset your choice, clear this site’s browser storage and reload, then choose Allow or Decline in the banner. Declining does not restrict access to the catalogue.

With permission, PostHog receives page visits and departures, time on pages, numeric page-performance measurements (loading, responsiveness, and layout stability), and catalogue refinement events: whether a search is present, the names of active filters, the selected sort, and pagination. Search text, author search values, query strings, fragments, referrers, and performance details that identify page elements or their content are excluded. Unknown page paths are grouped as “other”. No session recordings, automatic click capture, surveys, or identified user profiles are enabled.

BLE uses PostHog's EU service. Events use random browser identifiers held in memory; a full reload starts a new anonymous identity. Your analytics choice is stored locally in your browser, along with PostHog's consent marker. Clearing browser storage removes the saved choice. If storage is unavailable, the choice lasts only for the open page. Resetting your choice stops collection after reload until you allow it again; it does not delete events already sent. PostHog receives network requests, including the connection's IP address. BLE requires PostHog's “Discard client IP data” project setting before activation and disables geographic enrichment in its events.

BLE also uses Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. These existing integrations operate separately from the optional PostHog controls described here. PostHog totals cover only consenting readers and will differ from Vercel's overall traffic totals.
